February 6: With the blessings of his master Paramahamsa Hariharananda, realized master of Kriya Yoga, Swami Sarveshwarananda Giri founds the "Hariharananda Mission" in São Paulo, Brazil, an international charitable and educational organization. Its pilot project, the "Ark of Love" serves poor and abandoned children in Latin America.

February 16: The Arca do Amor (Ark of Love), begins it activities in Brasilia, Brazil, by rescuing the Tia Angelina crèche for poor families of the Varjão shanty town.

September 1: The Arca do Amor begins it activities in São Paulo, Brazil, by offering its services to the Formação XI crèche for poor families managed by the Fundação Orsa. It quickly earns an enthusiastic endorsement from the organization's staff psychologist.
