Lahiri Mahasaya: the beloved disciple of Babaji Maharaj, who brought back the ancient forgotten science of Kriya Yoga to the modern world.

Lao-tzu (A Chinese word meaning "old sage"): born Li Erh in the sixth Century B.C., virtually nothing is known of his life. According to legend he was keeper of the archives at the imperial court. At age eighty, disillusioned that no one was willing to follow the path to natural goodness, he set out toward what is now Tibet. At the border, a guard recognized him and asked him  to record his teachings. Lao-tzu composed the Tao Te Ching (The Way and Its Power) before riding away on his water buffalo, never to be seen again.

laya (Sanskrit word meaning “dissolution”, “absorption”): dissolution.

Logos: a Greek word meaning intelligence, wisdom, God, spirit, fire, and order. The Apostle John identified Jesus as the Logos in The Gospel of John.

loka (Sanskrit word meaning “realm”): plane of existence.

lumbar center: the spinal center in the abdomen known as the manipura (food) chakra.

Luke, Saint: He was not an apostle, but a close associate of St Paul. He was a physician, a historian, and a brilliant scholar. His name in Greek is Loukas. Author of the third Gospel and the Acts of the Apostles.  Most literary of the New Testament writers.

Luke, Gopel of: one of the four Gospels of the New Testament. The Gospel of Luke is largely based on the earlier Gospel of Mark. It is part of the Acts, and was written for the Greek intelligentsia, appealing to their love of beauty and truth
