Sant Ekanathar

"When I bathe in the river, the water is liquid consciousness."

Ekanath (1533-1599) was a unique combination of poet, infused with bhakti (devotion), and a scholar, greatly versed in jñana (knowledge).

Much loved for his legendary patience and tolerance, he never felt the least anger or irritation towards people who tried to offend him.

He was part of the extraordinary galaxy of poet-saints to have emerged in the state of Maharashtra in central India between the 13th and 17th century. His illustrious compatriots numbered among others Jñanadev, Namdev, Sheik Mohammed, Damaji, Gora Kumbar, Samartha Ramdas, and Chokha Mela.
