The
Baal
Shem Tov (1700-1760)
is a title which means "The Master of the Good Name" (i.e. God). He came
at a time when the Jewish people were experiencing profound hopelessness
and depression, and their religion had lost its flavor.

A sage of profound mystical realization, he taught that God is active in
all there is and that we should live our lives with a joyful, confident
and grateful attitude.
