Frances Cabrini

"I paid for this [orphanage] with three treasures: my love, a dream, and a glass of water in His Name."

Frances Xavier Cabrini (1850-1917) was born in the Lombard valley in Italy. She was a very frail child filled with an enormous courage and endurance. She took religious vows in 1873, and soon founded her own community, the Missionaries of the Sacred Heart. Pope Leo XIII directed her in 1889 to go minister to the poor in America. She founded and inspired the foundation of hospitals, orphanages, convents, and schools all over the Americas and Europe.
