Hadewych of Antwerp
a.k.a. Hadewijch of Brabant

"Whether I am wandering in the country or put in prison--
however it turns out, it is the work of love."

Hadewych of Antwerp (mid 1200s) was a Flemish Beguine who poured out her ecstatic love for God in mystical love lyrics, a  literary genre unknown in the West up to then.

She was one of the earliest and most influential figures in love mysticism, in which union with God is lived on earth as a symbolical love relationship.
