Henricus Suso

"[My] purpose (...) is not to inform the ignorant but to rekindle extinct flames of faith and to admonish the lukewarm, to provoke the impious to devotion and to stir into watchful virtue those who were lying torpid in mindless sleep".

Henricus Suso (1295-1366) was one of the most important of the early German mystics. He entered the Dominican Order at the age of 13 and in his late teens began to have mystical experiences. He called himself "the servant of the Eternal Wisdom" which he identified as Christ. He became known as the troubadour among German mystics for his visions and metaphorical descriptions.

His principal works include his autobiography The Life of the Servant, The Book of Eternal Wisdom, and The Book of Truth.
