Jacob
(early 2nd millennium BCE), son of Isaac and Rebecca, later
became known as
Israel, progenitor of the twelve tribes of Israel.
He was born holding the heel of this twin brother Esau and later stole his
birth right, hence his name in Hebrew Ya'akov which means "to hold the
heel" or "the supplanter".

After having successfully fought the
Angel of the Lord (as illustrated above), the All-Mighty changed his name
to Yisra'el, meaning "He who wrestles (yisra) with
God (el)". (See Genesis 32:28)
