Jeremiah
was a very important Hebrew prophet who lived approximately from 650 to
570 BCE. A spiritual and social reformer, he is the author of the
Book of Jeremiah as well as the Book of Lamentations in the Old
Testament.
He prophesized and later witnessed
the destruction of Jerusalem and exile into Babylon, which God revealed to
him would last seventy years. His Hebrew name Yirmeyahu means "YHWH
uplifts".
