Rabbi
Shimon Bar Yochai (2nd century CE) is the
presumed author of the
Sefer Zohar ("Book of
Splendor", the classic kabbalistic text).
Other sources claim that it was
the 13th century Moses de Leon
who actually wrote it, using the name of Rabbi Shimon Bar Yochai as a
cover.
