St. Claire of Assisi
Born: Chiara Offreduccio di Favarone

“I look at Him, and He looks at me,
and we tell each other that we love each other.”

Claire of Assisi (1194 - 1253) was born in a prosperous and noble family. She had turned down many offers of marriage since the age of twelve, and declared to her shocked family that she would never marry. At age sixteen, she heard St. Francis preach, and decided to join his new order.

She later became abbess and founded the order of the Poor Clares under the guidance of St. Francis. The name Clare means "shining" or "clear".
