St. John of the Cross
Born: Juan de Yepes y Alvarez

“In the evening of our lives we shall be examined in love.”

St. John of the Cross (1542-1591) was a great mystic, poet, and friar of Spain. Initially persecuted by the church for his mystical views, he found refuge and support in St. Teresa of Avila.

His Ascent of Mount Carmel, The Dark Night of the Soul , and A Spiritual Canticle of the Soul have provided profound spiritual guidance to seekers from all religions.
