St. Vincent de Paul

"Charity is above all rules."

St. Vincent de Paul (1581-1660), was known as the Apostle of Charity, and was the pioneer of modern social services. He founded numerous charitable missions, hospitals, and orphanages.

With Louise de Marillac, he co-founded the "Company of the Daughters of Charity." His name is derived from the Latin vincere, "to conquer".
