River Bagmati
River Bagmati is sacred to both Hindus and Buddhists and both believe that its source at Bagdwar was created by divine powers. Krakuchhanda, one of the Buddhas who incarnated prior to Gautama Buddha, needed water for a ceremony and used his vocal power to create the river's source.
The name Bagmati which means "the one associated with speech" gives a clue to the Hindu myth. Shiva was so pleased with the devotions of Prahlada, king of the demons, that he laughed forcefully and the river was born from his mouth.
