Cenote at Cichen Itza

The Mayans threw jewelry, pottery and figurines into the sacred cenote at the huge ceremonial city. In 1901 an American, Edward Thompson, dredged the cenote and found the bones of many humans, mostly children and it seems likely that the Mayans made human sacrifices to their gods.
