Lake Kokonor
|
|
The salty waters of Lake Kokonor, the blue lake, are visited by Chinese, Tibetans, and Moslems on an annual pilgrimage. The island at the centre of the lake is a sacred mountain called Zurgnon. The island and lake are connected to Guru Rinpoche and is known locally as the abode of Maha Dewa or Lord Shiva. The waters of the lake, which despite being salty are drinkable, are inhabited by klu (water spirits) and bodhisattvas.
