Rábi'a of Basra has long been known to students of mysticism as a woman of unique personality among early Sufis and a true mystic. This work by Margaret Smith is the first complete biography of the early Muslim saint, who died in the year 801. Dr. Smith, a distinguished scholar of Sufism, also offers in this fascinating book a rare survey of the other women mystics of Islam.
Rabindranath Tagore: The Myriad-Minded Man. by Dutta, Krishna and Robinson, Andrew.  New York, NY: St. Martin's Press 1935. The entire Indian civilization spoke through the poetic wisdom of Rabindranath Tagore. This book is a brilliant biography of the man Tagore, but it is also the story of the soul of India. This is a fascinating book about a fascinating man, a work that addresses the profound conflict between Eastern spirituality and Western rationality.

Ramakrishna and His Disciples. by Isherwood, Christopher.  Hollywood, CA: Vedanta Press, 1965. This is a story of a phenomenon. The author begins by calling him simply that, rather than holy man, mystic, saint, or avatar; all emotive words with mixed associations which may attract some readers, repel others. He unfolds a fantastic story with a calm finesse…This is a fresh and important contribution to the history of religious mysticism, a subject of ever-increasing interest in a psychology-conscious age.
Ramakrishna and His Message. by Vivekananda, Swami.  Calcutta, India: Advaita Ashrama. 1982. Swami Vivekananda (1863-1902), a student of Sri Ramakrishna, brought the rational and universal message of India's Vedanta philosophy to East and West - all within ten brief working years, from 1893 when he began his work to 1902 when he passed away. These are his reminiscences and profound reflections concerning his beloved Master Sri Ramakrishna The present book, it is hoped, will set at rest any doubt about Swamiji's correct representation of his Master.
