Irina
Tweedie (1907 - ) is
a Russian-born English woman who, upon the death of her husband, set out
to India in 1961 in search of a spiritual teacher. She eventually met Bhai
Sahib, a Naqshbandi Sufi teacher, who offered her a choice: the path of
gradual liberation, slow but comfortable, or the path of fire, quick but
demanding total sacrifice.

Her book
Daughter of Fire, in the
form of a personal diary, recounts in gripping details how she chose the
latter path. This book is also available in a condensed version as The
Chasm of Fire.
